Robert Shuman from the North American International Auto Show

Bob Shuman is chairman of the 2014 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS). A third-generation dealer / owner, he is president of Shuman Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Walled Lake, Mich. Shuman holds an accounting degree from Michigan State University and a law degree from the University of Michigan. He began his career practicing law with the firm of Beier Howlett in Bloomfield Hills, Mich., rising to partner. After 10 years, Shuman left the firm to take over the family dealership in 1997, upon the retirement of his father, Richard T. Shuman. Shuman was vice chairman of NAIAS 2013 assisting in the strategic planning and operation of one of the world’s top auto shows. The volunteer position requires countless hours of service as the executive team meets with automaker representatives around the world, reviews some 100 iterations of the show floor plan, works with sponsors, and conducts numerous media interviews — all to ensure that the NAIAS remains one of the finest auto shows on the planet. Shuman is past president of the Detroit Auto Dealers Association; a member of the Board of Directors for the Michigan Automobile Dealers Association; and a member of the Board of Directors of the Southeast Michigan Chrysler Dodge Jeep Advertising Association. Locally, Shuman is very involved in business activities in his community, actively supporting performing arts and sports programs at Walled Lake’s three high schools and is past chairman and current Board Member of the Walled Lake Downtown Development Authority. Shuman lives in West Bloomfield with his wife, Sherry. He has a daughter at home, attending Walled Lake Central High School and a son who is on break from the University of Michigan for an internship at Toyota.
