Itinerary
Day 1
Arrival in Cairo
Welcome Meeting (mandatory) – 6pm followed by Welcome Dinner with your hosts.
Salaam Aleikum! Welcome to Egypt. On arrival in Cairo, you’ll be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel, with a welcome meeting scheduled for 6 pm this evening. If you arrive early, take time to ease into the rhythm of the city—wander the streets, grab a quick bite like ta’ameya (Egypt’s take on falafel), or relax at the hotel pool with sweeping views of the pyramids. After the meeting, enjoy a welcome dinner with the group as your local guide introduces you to Egyptian cuisine, known for its fresh flavors and communal spirit, with classic dishes like fatta—rice, bread, and meat in a garlic-vinegar sauce—and kushari, a hearty mix of pasta, rice, lentils, and crispy onions.
Day 2
Cairo
This morning, explore the Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx with an expert Egyptologist, experiencing one of the Seven Wonders of the World up close. For an additional cost, you may choose to enter the Great Pyramid of Khufu. After lunch, continue to the Grand Egyptian Museum, where treasures from Tutankhamun’s tomb—including his iconic golden mask—offer a powerful window into Egypt’s dynastic past, with time to explore the vast collection at your own pace.
Day 3
Aswan
Catch a morning flight to Aswan – Egypt’s southernmost city. Check into your hotel, then travel to Philae Island and visit the beautiful Temple of Isis – the goddess of health, marriage and wisdom – rescued from the rising waters of the Nile and relocated here. Your leader will share stories of the history and changing landscape of the island. Then, take a boat to a Nubian village on an island in the middle of the Nile. Walk through the village before sitting down to dinner with a local Nubian family in their home. Enjoy traditional Nubian food, swap stories with your friendly hosts and gain a unique perspective into their way of life.
Day 4
Nile Cruise
After breakfast, you may like to take a stroll around Aswan or join an optional tour of Abu Simbel – a temple complex that was dismantled and moved to make way for the Aswan High Dam. Board a Nile riverboat – your Feature Stay accommodation for the next three nights! Travelling by riverboat allows you to get to the heart of each destination while ensuring the journeys in between are every bit as interesting. In the afternoon, board a traditional felucca sailing boat where you can sit back and relax with some drinks as the sun sets over your beautiful surroundings. Return to your riverboat for dinner.
Day 5
Edfu
(Nile Cruise)
Enjoy a peaceful morning on board your riverboat, then set out in the afternoon along the river, relaxing in the sun on deck and taking in the desert hills forming a backdrop over the lush riverbanks. Arrive at Kom Ombo Temple, sitting spectacularly on the river’s edge. Your leader will let you in on the secrets of this ancient temple. Built in approximately 181 BC, Kom Ombo is dedicated to two gods – Horus (god of protection) and Sobek (god of fertility, linked to the Nile’s water). Each god has a dedicated section – north or south – and there have been recent discoveries of mummified crocodiles in the Sobek section. After, return to your riverboat and continue to Edfu where you’ll dock for the evening.
Day 6
Luxor
(Nile Cruise)
This morning, you’ll sail toward Luxor, passing through the Esna Locks. You may have to queue to proceed, but this is a perfect opportunity to sit back with a drink in hand and observe life unfolding along the Nile. Arrive in Luxor, often described as an open-air museum, where some of Egypt’s most extraordinary reminders of the Pharaohs rise directly from the modern city.
Today you’ll explore the remarkable Karnak Temple, one of the world’s most celebrated religious complexes. Built over nearly 2,000 years, Karnak was a true house of the gods. A guided visit through its monumental pylons, obelisks, and chapels reveals highlights including the Avenue of Sphinxes and the Great Temple of Amun. After lunch, continue on to Luxor Temple, once linked to Karnak by that same sacred avenue and long associated with royal ceremony and renewal.
Day 7
Luxor
Disembark your riverboat and head to the Valley of the Kings, where more than 60 royal tombs lie hidden beneath the desert hills. With your expert guide, explore the burial ground of New Kingdom pharaohs, with vividly preserved paintings and hieroglyphics. Entry to the tombs—including the Tomb of Tutankhamun—is included, allowing you to step inside one of the world’s greatest archaeological discoveries and see the chamber that holds his golden sarcophagus. Continue to the dramatic Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, carved into towering cliffs, and end at the iconic Colossi of Memnon, two monumental statues standing watch over Luxor’s west bank.
Day 8
Cairo
Fly to Cairo this morning and settle into your hotel before exploring the historic Al-Azhar neighbourhood. Wander the lively Khan al-Khalili Bazaar, a maze of alleyways filled with gold, spices, textiles, and perfumed oils, then visit the 9th-century Al-Azhar Mosque, a masterpiece of Islamic architecture. Pause at Cairo’s oldest coffeehouse for an Arabic coffee or mint tea as the city moves around you. In the afternoon, enjoy a rare invitation into a local home for a home-cooked Egyptian meal, sharing traditional dishes and gaining an intimate glimpse into everyday life in Cairo.
