Wilderness Safaris’ Serra Cafema Camp, hidden in the Hartmann Valley, surrounded by the infinity of the Namib Desert, in the extreme north-west of Namibia, has reopened after an eco-friendly rebuild about two days ago. The park, located at an extremely remote region by the banks of the Kunene River offers travellers incredible journeys to the local deserts. The unique point of this camp is its ability to combining incredible landscapes at an uncommon destination, completely eco-friendly facilities and socially responsible tourism that focuses on experiencing local Himba culture and aims to strengthen local businesses.

In fact, Serra Cafema is so remote that it can only be accessed by air and a 4×4 transfer across the Namib Desert. It is a real adventure getting there. The camp will stand out mostly to safari veterans and desert lovers. It is right by the side of the Namib desert and it is situated in sight of Angola. It is very likely the remotest camp in Namibia and in all of Southern Africa.

Serra Cafema is partly owned by the Himba people, some of the last semi-nomadic peoples on Earth. Himba people is committed to offering an unique experience of exploration and conservation of the wild nature and also bridging travellers into the ancient Himba culture, which keeps constantly evolving but maintaining its essential roots of connection to the earth and to oneself.

This is the experience that Serra Cafema Camp aims to offer along with comfortable accommodation, excellent hospitality and access to the spectacular natural space around the camp through guided bike tours and excursions deep into the desert.

Another highlighting feature of Serra Cafema is its special emphasis in constructing eco-friendly facilities, 100 per cent solar powered and with an eco-footprint as light as possible. Besides being environmentally responsible, the camp uses natural materials to reflect the surrounding landscape with natural stones from the nearest valley.

The entire concept of the camp is aimed to reverence and respect Himba culture. This commitment is what makes the camp relevant to the local community. Serra Cafema focuses on promoting local talent.
