There’s a new hip hotel in town and it is leading the way in social responsibility and preservation.

Earlier this week, World Footprints attended the grand opening of Hotel RL Inner Harbor Baltimore, a new urban lifestyle brand of the Red Lion Hotel Corporation (RLHC) .  Guests enjoyed signature cocktails, live music and an overnight stay at this flagship property that allowed staff to work out final details before the hotel officially opened its doors on Saturday.

RHLC President and CEO Greg Mount also used the opening to launch Project Wake Up Call, a social responsibility initiative to raise awareness and combat the epidemic of homelessness.   Additionally, Hotel RL showcased its commitment to the community.

Housed in the former historic Keyser Building, the 130-room Hotel RL is a shining example of adaptive reuse, creativity and preservation.  Located in the financial district and just blocks from the famous Inner Harbor, Hotel RL’s lobby reflects a cross between an artist community and high-tech incubator.   Communal spaces and advanced technology are emphasized throughout. The lobby showcases blackboard painted columns covered in chalk art; a block “steps” that serve as seats for the innovative Living Stage—a place that will showcase local musicians, thought leaders and innovators (and maybe a future live broadcast of World Footprints); a well stocked bar and a welcoming coffee bar.

Hotel RL Baltimore Inner Harbor  offers a youthful but upscale ambiance.    Hotel management held a casting call for staff and selected those who are engaging, professional and creative.  Most staff showcased blue, pink and green colored hair, body piercings and tattoos.   Being there was as close to being on a theatrical stage at times.  It was fun and we’re looking forwarding to returning soon.

Hotel rooms incorporate a plush bed, single seat, flat screen TV and hardwood floors throughout.  The amenities are basic and by some standards sparse but the bathroom shower is large enough for four people.  Overall our impression of Hotel RL Baltimore Inner Harbor is positive, but don’t take our word for it.  Hotel RL is offering a trial one-night stay from August 1 – October 31, 2015.  For $100 you can experience Hotel RL Baltimore Inner Harbor for yourself.  Flying in to BWI airport?  Hotel RL has a cool VW Bug van that has been restored and repurposed as an airport shuttle.

Reservations for Hotel RL Baltimore Inner Harbor can be booked at Hotel-RL/Baltimore or by calling 1- 800-733-5466 (1-800-RED-LION).

Editors Note:  Because World Footprints prides itself on integrity and transparency please know that our sponsored evening at Hotel RL did not impact our review. We were genuinely impressed by the hip and artsy atmosphere and décor.  Moreover, we appreciate RLHC’s philanthropic commitment and support of the communities the Hotel RL brand will enter.   However, our pre-opening experience wasn’t perfect.  At times only one elevator worked and our room lacked little things like an ice bucket and coffee maker.  Nonetheless, we saw the full potential of this property and felt its heart of the community so we look forward to our return visit soon.
