World Footprints was founded on the principle of “Ubuntu” – a Zulu word that translates to the phrase I am because we are. Ubuntu is a reflection of the Global Citizenship we seek to display here. We hold a responsibility to each other. As citizens of this planet we are obligated to be stewards of this blue marble.

Per Wikipedia, Global Citizenship is the idea that one’s identity transcends geography or political borders and that responsibilities or rights are derived from membership in a broader class: “humanity”. In short…Ubuntu.

Through travel , one gets the opportunity to interact with other cultures and communities and make conscious efforts to achieve social developmental goals. Connecting with cultures across the globe is crucial in order to gain deeper understanding of their issues and concerns. Global citizen actively participate in communities at all levels -locally as well as globally. And take responsibility for their actions and interactions with members of their own community and communities abroad. To be able to develop empathy for other cultures , it is essential to broaden our horizons and step out of our comfort zones.

Global Citizenship is a mindset. A mind that says that we are more than just ourselves and we have civic responsibilities to the world as a whole rather than just our local communities or countries. A Global citizen attempts to become globally aware and understand his place in the whole wide world.
