LEGACY SHOW: NASCAR’s Kyle Petty and the Growing Medical Tourism Market
Aired on April 28, 2009
This broadcast is a favorite legacy show that we produced under our old name Travel’n On and before re-branding as WORLD FOOTPRINTS. We’ll discuss the growth of medical tourism and Kyle Petty’s career and charity work.
Medical tourism – where people travel abroad to receive affordable and quality medical, dental and surgical care – is one of the fastest growing markets in the world and we’ll be joined by Jonathon Edelheit, President of the Medical Tourism Association to discuss this new travel trend.
There are several reasons why someone could go abroad for medical care, including:
- Cost: The price of receiving care or undergoing a procedure that may be less expensive abroad.
- Culture: To obtain treatment from a medical professional who is fluent in the traveler’s language and culture.
- Unavailable or Unapproved procedure: Getting a procedure that is not available or approved in your own country.
Dental work, surgical operations, cosmetic surgery, fertility treatments, organ, and tissue transplants, and cancer therapy are among the most frequent procedures people have done while traveling for medical tourism.
Then, In 1995, NASCAR driver Kyle Petty combined his passion for helping others and his love of motorcycles to create the Kyle Petty Charity Ride Across America. Kyle will join the Travel’n On Radio Show to talk about his upcoming Charity Ride, his career, and his travels. Former NASCAR racer turned racing analyst Kyle Petty is one of the most well-known figures in all of the sports. Kyle Petty is a descendant of one of the founding families of NASCAR and is as much a product of racing as he is of his well-known father, Richard Petty, “The King,” and grandfather, Lee Petty. Kyle has achieved a great deal outside of racing, both in the fields of music and philanthropy, even though his name will always be associated with NASCAR.
